Kisumu City Board, traders agree on July 1 opening of vandalized Nyamasaria Bus Park following court settlement

The multi-million shilling Nyamasaria Bus Park will officially open on July 1, 2026, following a court-sanctioned settlement between the Kisumu City Board and the local community, even as contractors rush to repair millions of shillings in damage caused by recent vandalism.

The stakeholder engagement follows a court-sanctioned, out-of-court settlement between the local community and city management, which was initiated after residents successfully challenged the initial operationalization of the multimillion-shilling facility in court.

During the forum, a consensus was reached confirming that the bus park will be officially inaugurated on July 1, 2026.

To ensure a smooth transition, stakeholders agreed to establish a multi-sectoral committee tasked with overseeing critical operational aspects, including overall bus park management, fair stall allocations, security deployment, revenue collection frameworks, traffic management, and opening day logistics.

Meanwhile, emergency rehabilitation works are currently underway at the site following extensive vandalism that left the facility severely damaged.

Thieves had previously stripped the park of its installed lighting systems, structural steel components, and other vital installations valued at millions of shillings. A contractor has already been deployed to the site to fully restore the infrastructure ahead of next week’s scheduled launch.
