Kisii County Woman Representative Doris Donya has expressed concern over the rising cases of gender-based violence and teenage pregnancies in the county, calling for collective action to protect children.

Donya said Kisii is not performing well in addressing gender-based violence, adding that many young girls are becoming mothers before reaching adulthood.

“In terms of Gender-Based Violence in Kisii County, we are not doing well. Teen pregnancies are many. We have babies having babies,” she said.

She called on chiefs, teachers, religious leaders and parents to work together in educating children on responsible behaviour and reproductive health.

“I call upon the chiefs, teachers and pastors to spread the word and have sex education for our children,” Donya said.

The Woman Representative emphasized that community leaders have a responsibility to guide and protect children from abuse, exploitation and early pregnancies through awareness and education.

She urged all stakeholders to unite in addressing the growing social challenges affecting young people across Kisii County.
