Let there be respect, MCA Omondi ‘Bank Otuch’ lashes at lawmaker Masara

Wasweta II Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Erickson Omondi, popularly known as “Bank Otuch,” has openly clashed with Suna West lawmaker Peter Masara over alleged political interference ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The public exchange laid bare deep-seated political rivalries in the region, centers on local territory dominance and conflicting county-level alignments.

Taking the podium with strong conviction, Omondi launched a direct warning to lawmaker Peter Masara, cautioning him against interfering in the local affairs within Wasweta II.

Looking down upon his leadership

Omondi accused the MP of orchestrating a targeted campaign to undermine his leadership by continuously speaking ill of him across various public gatherings in the constituency.

“I am asking the Member of Parliament to stop talking about me in every gathering he addresses,” Omondi declared.

“Let him respect me and my office as the duly elected MCA of this ward, and I will reciprocate that respect. But he must completely detach himself from the local politics of Wasweta II as we head toward the next general election.”

Adding further fuel to the escalating political feud in Suna West, Wasweta II Ward lawmaker further demanded that Mr Masara stop trying to dictate the political future of the ward.

Omondi urged the lawmaker to refrain from using his influence to sway local voters, asserting that the electorate of Wasweta II must be left entirely alone to choose their own leaders without outside interference.

“Do not attempt to manipulate or influence the decisions of the residents of Wasweta II,” Omondi warned.

“In the next polls, step aside and allow the people of this ward to freely elect the person they truly want to represent them.”

The MCA emphasized that political godfatherism has no place in the ward, reiterating that the voice of the voters should remain sovereign and untainted by constituency-level meddling.

Omondi dismissed rumors allegedly being circulated by Masara claiming that he was responsible for securing or handing the MP his ODM nomination ticket.

“Such claims are entirely baseless and intended to distort political reality for local relevance.”

“He needs to stop telling people that he gave me the certificate,” the MCA stated firmly, asserting his independent political standing and demanding respect for the democratic processes that took place in the ward.

Omondi went further to bring up the plight of a prominent local figure known as “Blacky.” According to the MCA, Blacky has been bitterly lamenting how his political ambitions were thwarted when his rightful ODM certificate was bypassed and awarded to someone else.

The MCA noted that this political betrayal created an unhealed division that has lasted.

He remarked that the former ODM party leader, the late Raila Odinga, tragically passed away while still holding a political grudge against Blacky due to the fallout from that highly contentious nomination exercise.

“Blacky is still lamenting because the ODM certificate was given to someone else, and the late Baba passed away with that grudge,” community members noted following the address.

In rejoinder, Suna West MP Peter Masara dismissed the MCA’s assertions, instead turning the tables and accusing Omondi of deliberately steering political hostility and violence against him.

A visibly angry Masara issued a stern warning to the ward representative, telling him to re-evaluate the confrontational political trajectory he has chosen to adopt, promising swift and uncompromising consequences.

“I am warning the MCA not to take the dangerous path he is currently on, because if he continues, I will deal with him ruthlessly,” Masara fired back.

You cannot lecture me

Escalating the war of words, Mr Masara firmly dismissed the MCA’s criticisms, arguing that Omondi lacks any political standing or moral authority to lecture him.

Masara noted that the political hierarchy separates their offices, stating plainly that they are not on the same level.

“The signs of a failing leader are clearly written on the wall for everyone to see,” Masara remarked sharply.

“You do not have the authority to lecture anyone here. Let us be clear: we are not on the same level politically, structurally, or otherwise, and it is time you realized that.”

Masara also pointed out that his political backing in future elections would be strictly conditional. He made it clear that he will only offer his political machinery and support to leaders who demonstrate an absolute willingness to cooperate and work harmoniously with his office.

“Again I would advise you to distance yourself from the current sitting Governor Ochilo Ayacko. Your proximity to the county boss will yield no political fruits.”
