Celebrating culture, empowering girls: inside Kadika Girls’ first diversity day

Kadika Girls’ National School last week transformed into a hub of music, color, and vibrant energy during its first-ever Cultural Diversity Day.

Aligned with Kenya’s Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework, the milestone event celebrated the country’s rich heritage while nurturing non-academic talents like creative expression and collaboration.

Chief Principal Roseline Ochieng’ noted that the initiative fosters mutual respect, unity, and cohesion among students from diverse backgrounds, preparing them holistically for future careers.

The festivities featured traditional dances, musical performances, comedy, and inclusive beauty pageants, such as Miss Jumbo, to boost every student’s confidence.

Beyond entertainment, learners used creative arts to tackle pressing social issues, raising awareness against harmful practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Event coordinator Sharon Vida highlighted how the day empowered girls to discover their self-worth.

Building on this inaugural success, school leaders are urging the Ministry of Education and youth partners to support future editions, turning cultural expression into a lasting driver of youth empowerment.
