A normal routine in Marsabit County turned tragic on Monday after a 30-year-old man was killed in his sleep when a heavy stone, propelled by a nearby mining explosion, tore through his makeshift home and struck him in the head.
The victim, identified as Hassan Abdi Guyo, was resting inside his nylon-walled structure in the Nasore area of Dabel Location, Moyale Sub-County.
At approximately 7:30am, an explosive charge detonated at a mining site situated just 200 meters from his home.
According to police reports, the sheer force of the blast sent a rogue stone hurtling directly into Guyo’s shelter, dealing a fatal blow.
He died instantly at the scene.
The bizarre and fatal incident has sparked a police manhunt.
Authorities have identified a prime suspect connected to the mishandled blast, but the individual remains on the run.
Detectives are currently piecing together the timeline of events to determine the exact circumstances of the detonation and whether any safety protocols were violated at the site.
Crime scene personnel have processed the area, and Guyo’s body has been transferred to the Moyale Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
