The United States government has announced a major $7 million (approximately Sh930 million) funding initiative aimed at supporting the modernization and professionalization of Kenya’s police service.

The significant partnership was officially launched on Friday at the Kenya Police Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, coinciding with a massive national graduation ceremony.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the US Embassy in Kenya emphasized that well-trained law enforcement personnel are crucial for safeguarding citizens and fostering a secure environment for enterprise.

“We believe well-trained officers can best protect and serve their fellow citizens. Safety is vital for Kenyan and American businesses operating here,” the US Embassy stated.

Reaffirming its commitment to regional security and economic prosperity, the embassy highlighted that the $7 million program will directly reinforce ongoing local reforms designed to build a more effective, modern, and professional police force.

The launch took place against the backdrop of a major milestone for the National Police Service. On Friday, over 6,000 new officers graduated from the institution during a passing-out parade in Kiganjo, presided over by President William Ruto.
