Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has called for greater investment in women’s economic empowerment, adding that supporting women to become financially independent is key to improving livelihoods and strengthening families.

Mbadi spoke in Uriri Sub-County, Migori County, where he presided over two separate women economic empowerment programmes in East Kanyamkago and West Kanyamkago wards.

The programmes brought together women from the two wards, with the government leaders emphasising the importance of empowering women through economic activities and supporting grassroots development initiatives.

Mbadi said women remain central to the growth of households and communities and should be given opportunities and support to participate actively in income-generating activities.

Potentiality in women

He said economic empowerment programmes targeting women have the potential to transform families by enabling beneficiaries to establish businesses, support their children and improve their living standards.

The Treasury CS said the government remains committed to supporting programmes aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary Kenyans, particularly those at the grassroots.

Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita said women empowerment remains an important pillar of development in the constituency.

Nyamita said investing in women creates opportunities for entire families and communities, noting that economically empowered women are better placed to contribute to the development of their households.

The MP said the empowerment programmes in East and West Kanyamkago were part of efforts to ensure that residents benefit from development initiatives and economic opportunities.

He urged women to make good use of the opportunities provided through empowerment programmes and work together to improve their economic wellbeing.

Mbadi and Nyamita also used the separate gatherings to highlight the importance of government development programmes in transforming communities.
