Homa Bay Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has strongly criticized a section of Luo Nyanza leaders advocating for a political alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during President William Ruto’s development tour of Kisumu County, Wanga dismissed the opposition alliance push as misguided and out of step with the region’s socio-economic interests.

Wanga questioned the rationale behind joining forces with Gachagua while the current administration is actively delivering key infrastructure and development projects across Nyanza.

“I have seen some of our leaders, those elected on ODM party tickets, telling us to work with Mr Gachagua,” Governor Wanga noted while addressing the crowd.

“Honestly, is that even possible?”

Pointing to the newly launched infrastructure projects in Kisumu, Wanga highlighted the tangible benefits of aligning with the national government.

“Today, the President is here and has launched the road that will be tarmacked from Rabuor to Chiga and then to Kibos,” she added. “Honestly, do you want us to abandon this gentleman and work with Mr Gachagua?”

The ODM chairperson declared that the party remains firmly committed to the broad-based government framework and will rally Luo Nyanza behind President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

She emphasized that the region stands to gain significantly through continued collaboration with the national executive rather than pursuing speculative political alliances.
