President William Ruto has defended his administration’s economic footprint, claiming that his government has created over two million jobs since taking over leadership from his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking during a road launch stopover in Rabuor, Kisumu County, President Ruto outlined the key pillars of his employment agenda, asserting that Kenya Kwanza has successfully placed millions of citizens into various income-generating spaces across construction, diaspora labor, and the digital economy.

Providing a breakdown of the figures, the Head of State highlighted the flagship Affordable Housing Programme as the primary driver of domestic employment.

“I want to report that the affordable housing program—which the opposition is fighting and promising to abolish through the housing levy—has employed 1.1 million Kenyans directly,” President Ruto stated.

He further noted that international labor agreements and digital infrastructure initiatives have opened up significant opportunities beyond traditional domestic markets:

Over 600,000 Kenyan workers have secured overseas employment through various bilateral labor export agreements, at least 380,000 youth are actively working and earning a living within the digital space.

Criticizing opposition leaders for opposing government initiatives without offering viable alternatives, President Ruto insisted that critics lack a concrete development plan for the country.

“The affordable housing project, which they are fighting, has solved three challenges: first, job creation; second, housing provision; and third, local income flow,” Ruto added.

“In the next one and a half years, we shall have two million Kenyans working in the affordable housing program alone.”
