Cops nab Starehe mugger, uncover stolen phones in Kisumu robbery probe

Police operations in Nairobi and Kisumu counties have dealt a fresh blow to urban mugging rings, resulting in the arrest of two key robbery suspects and the recovery of stolen goods, weapons, and narcotics.

In Nairobi, undercover officers from Pangani Police Station mounted a swift operation following a robbery report along General Waruinge Road in Starehe Sub-County.

Responding instantly to the victim’s distress signal, the undercover team pursued two fleeing suspects, cornering and apprehending one of them. A search led to the recovery of a penknife alongside the victim’s stolen Tecno Spark smartphone, which was positively identified.

The suspect was processed and booked at Pangani Police Station, where he remains in custody pending formal arraignment.

In Kisumu City, a intelligence-led probe into local cases of robbery with violence yielded the arrest of a suspect linked to a wider phone-snatching syndicate operating across the lakeside city.

A tactical search of the suspect’s residence uncovered a hoard of suspected illicit items, including: multiple mobile phones, phone accessories, and assorted SIM cards, and concealed rolls of cannabis sativa (bhang).

Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to the hideout of an accomplice.

However, the second suspect violently resisted arrest and managed to escape.

Detectives have intensified tracking operations across Kisumu to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and dismantle remaining syndicate members.
