Ugandan Gen Zs in a hot soup for holding protest

In Uganda, young people have taken to the streets to protest against corruption and human rights abuses.

Despite warnings from President Yoweri Museveni to “stop playing with fire,” the youths marched through Kampala with placards, chanting slogans against the government.

A video from NTV Uganda on their X channel showed protesters being intercepted and arrested as they tried to reach the parliament.

The exact number of detainees is unclear, but authorities have labeled the protest illegal, citing fears of potential property destruction and looting.

Soldiers and police surrounded the parliament building to keep the protesters at bay. On July 22, police shut down the opposition party’s office, accusing them of organizing the protests. Several opposition officials were arrested.

The opposition, however, accused President Museveni of ignoring corruption cases and protecting loyalists.

The recent protests in Uganda and Kenya highlight a generation tired of unfulfilled political promises, taking matters into their own hands.
