Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a four-member gang notorious for stealing from locked cars.
According to a statement seen by Kondele News on July 24, the suspects were apprehended following an investigation sparked by a report filed at Langata Police Station.
The suspects, identified as Steve Nagi, Mashud Onyango, Maingi Rashid, and Johnson Mbingu, allegedly stole Sh850,000 from a locked car while the victim was shopping at Uchumi Supermarket.
The DCI revealed, “The arrest is a culmination of a painstaking investigation from a report at Langata Police Station where a resident of South C Green Estate 2 lost part of his money that he had withdrawn from a local bank on July 17, 2024.”
Upon returning from the supermarket, the victim discovered that his vehicle had been broken into and the money, stashed in a khaki envelope, was missing.
CCTV footage from a nearby business establishment proved crucial in cracking the case. The four-man gang was captured on camera breaking into the car and escaping in a white Suzuki Swift, registration number KDB 771T.
Detectives established that one of the arrested suspects, Shaban Maingi, had a criminal record and had been previously arrested for similar offenses within the Langata area.
