Shock as a pregnant woman is slashed with a panga

MWALA: A pregnant 18-year-old girl from Mbiunu in Mwala Sub County is receiving treatment at Machakos Level 5 Hospital after her boyfriend allegedly launched a brutal attack on her following a domestic dispute.

Miss Ndanu, who is 23 weeks pregnant, suffered a broken arm and deep cuts to her neck after Brian Waita allegedly attacked her with a panga.

According to Ndanu, the couple had enjoyed lunch together before Waita left to fetch a donkey for the market.

When he returned, he decided to wash his shirt while Ndanu rested. Suddenly, she found herself on the floor in a pool of blood, having been slashed on the neck and arm.

Desperate to save herself, she crawled to the bed and called for help. Waita fled the scene, locking the door behind him.

A neighbor heard her cries and climbed through the roof to unlock the door. “I still can’t believe that my husband of two years did this to me. He has been such a loving and caring man,” Ndanu said tearfully.

Juliana Mwendwa, the nursing manager at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, confirmed that Ndanu arrived with serious injuries and was unconscious.

“She arrived unconscious but is now stable and recovering in the orthopedic ward,” Mwendwa said.

She expressed concern over the rising cases of gender-based violence in the county, urging the community to take a stand against this issue.

Mwala OCPD Muthoni Wahome confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that authorities are actively pursuing the suspect, who remains at large.
