Migori County Disburses Kshs 40 Million to Empower 400 Groups in Economic Development Program

MIGORI: The Migori County Government has disbursed Kshs 40 million to 400 groups across all 40 wards under its economic empowerment program, aimed at supporting small businesses and cooperatives.

Spearheaded by the Department of Trade, the initiative seeks to boost local trade, improve livelihoods, and strengthen the county’s economic base.

County chief, Ochilo Ayacko, speaking during the official launch, emphasized his administration’s commitment to practical initiatives that empower residents.

“This program is a testament to our resolve to prioritize the economic well-being of our people. These funds will allow groups to grow their businesses, enhance productivity, and create jobs. Let our work speak for itself. Politics will come in 2027, and we will handle that when the time comes,” Governor Ayacko stated.

Deputy Governor, Joseph Mahiri echoed the Governor’s sentiment, stressing the administration’s focus on delivering tangible results.

“This is not the time for petty politics. Our mandate is to fulfill our promises, and we are doing just that. The people of Migori will judge us by our actions, and we are confident they will continue to support us in 2027,” said Dr Mahiri.

County First Lady, Agnes Ochilo, who was present at the the event, commended the program for addressing the needs of small businesses in the region.

“Economic empowerment is key to building a stronger, more resilient community. To those who doubt our efforts, I urge patience and trust. When the time for politics comes, we’ll meet at the ballot box, and I assure you of victory,” she remarked.

Dr Betty Samburu, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, highlighted the inclusiveness of the program, noting that all 40 wards had benefited equally.

“We designed this program to be inclusive and impactful. The funds will help entrepreneurs expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods,” Dr Samburu explained.

Chief Officer for Trade, Victor Ouya, called on beneficiaries to use the funds responsibly to ensure lasting impact.

“This is an opportunity to transform lives and grow businesses. We are confident that this initiative will yield great results,” Mr Ouya said.

The event reflected unity among the county leadership, with leaders sending a strong message to critics. They urged their opponents to engage in meaningful discussions, rather than resorting to political attacks.
