Who stole Deaf couple’s child at Nakuru Hospital, Police probing

A deaf couple in Nakuru County is crying for justice after the body of their seven-month-old baby went missing at the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital (NTRH).

The devastated parents, Sharon Saidi and Daniel Korir, now suspect that their daughter might still be alive and was swapped with a dead child.

According to Saidi, her daughter Mercy was given an injection that left her unresponsive shortly after administration. Despite her desperate attempts to alert the nurses, she was ignored, allegedly because she was deaf.

She then called her husband for help, but by the time they returned, their baby had already been wrapped and marked as dead.

Before 8 PM, my child had fed well and was sleeping. But at 9 PM, a doctor gave her three injections. At 11 PM, when I tried feeding her again, she was unresponsive. I rushed to call the nurse, but she ignored me, saying ‘later, later,” Saidi recounted.

When the couple returned, they were only shown the baby’s name on the tag, but the hospital staff refused to let them see the body.

The hospital then asked them to return the following day, but six days later, they are yet to see their child’s body, fueling fears that Baby Mercy may have been stolen.

The baby’s father, Korir, expressed frustration, saying that instead of allowing them to see the body, hospital officials shifted focus to their bill, raising suspicions.

The case has since sparked outrage, with Martin Njoroge, the Vice Chairperson of the Deaf Community in Nakuru, threatening mass protests if the hospital fails to produce the baby or the body within 72 hours.
