Leopards Dent Gor Mahia’s Title Dreams in Thrilling Mashemeji Derby

Homa Bay: AFC Leopards delivered a major blow to Gor Mahia’s title aspirations in a tense Mashemeji Derby showdown on Monday, June 2, at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

In a match brimming with rivalry and high stakes, it was the Leopards who clawed back from a goal down to hold the defending champions to a 1-1 draw—leaving K’Ogalo’s hopes of retaining the FKF Premier League title hanging by the slimmest of margins.

Austin Odhiambo’s first-half strike had given Gor Mahia a much-needed lifeline, with the home crowd daring to dream of a critical three points that could put pressure on league leaders Kenya Police.

But AFC Leopards, undaunted by the partisan atmosphere, roared back with Brian Wanyama’s equalizer just four minutes into the second half.

The result preserved Leopards’ unbeaten record against Gor Mahia under head coach Fred Ambani and marked the second stalemate between the two bitter rivals this season.

More crucially, it left Gor Mahia needing a miracle—and likely some help from other teams—to keep their hopes of a third consecutive league title alive with just two games to go.
