Stolen AK-47 Recovered in Kabete as Manhunt for Suspect Intensifies

Police officers from Kabete have recovered a stolen AK-47 rifle linked to the violent June 25 protests, following a operation that unfolded in the Gahui area.

The firearm, snatched from Dagoretti Police Post during the unrest, was traced after a tip-off about a suspicious man carrying a bulging bag at Gravity Bar.

Acting swiftly, National Police Service officers raided the establishment and, using forensic intelligence, tracked down the suspect’s movements.

The investigation led them to a residence in the Njuki-Kirigu area. However, the suspect managed to slip away just as officers arrived.

A subsequent search of the house conducted in the presence of the suspect’s mother—uncovered the stolen AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, and a single round of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Police have since confirmed the recovered items were looted from Dagoretti Police Post during the nationwide protests.

A major manhunt is now underway as authorities pursue fresh leads in the search for the armed fugitive.
