Stealing pregnant sheep; Angry villagers burn a house of suspect

UGENYA: A man suspected of stealing a pregnant sheep in Ukwala Location, Ugenya sub-county, is now in police custody after angry villagers torched his house.

Claudio Ogejo, 30, was apprehended after the stolen sheep, taken the previous night from Rahab Njoki’s homestead in Kamalunga Village, Simur Kondiek sub-location, was found tied next to his bed.

Njoki positively identified her animal.

According to Simur Kondiek sub-location Chief Antony Onyango, Ogejo managed to evade the enraged villagers who had initially cornered him.

“The suspect got away, [and] the angry mob then descended on his house and burned it to rubble,” Onyango reported.

“He then proceeded to [the] police station where he is being held pending arraignment in court.”

Onyango further detailed that Ogejo and an accomplice allegedly stole the sheep around 2am, seen by the victim using a spotlight to break into the pen.

Villagers tracked him to his house at dawn, where they not only found the sheep but also a wet t-shirt, presumed to be his attire during the theft which occurred at night when it was raining heavily.

Suspiciously, a receipt for a sold goat was also recovered. “He sold a goat and got a receipt yet he is not a farmer, neither does he rear goats,” the administrator noted.
