Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has launched an urgent operation to airlift critically injured employees after a tragic Thursday afternoon collision between a company staff bus and a Kenya Railways train in Naivasha.
The accident happened at a railway crossing near KPC’s Morendat Training and Conference Centre, where the staff bus—ferrying workers home after the morning shift—was struck while crossing the tracks.
KPC Managing Director Joe Sang confirmed that emergency teams were activated immediately, with the injured rushed to Naivasha hospitals. Those in critical condition are being flown to facilities offering specialised care.
“We are working closely with medical teams and local authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible treatment,” Sang said. “At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues and their families.”
First responders from KPC and local emergency services worked in tandem to stabilise victims and coordinate what Sang described as a “complex evacuation process.” The company has also deployed welfare and psychosocial support teams to assist affected employees and their families during the traumatic period.
While investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, bad weather remains a possible factor, as heavy rain and fog were reported in the area at the time, reducing visibility.
Sang assured the public and stakeholders that KPC’s focus remains firmly on supporting the injured and their loved ones.
“We will continue to share updates as more details become available,” he added.
