Tanzania’s journey in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) has come to an end following a 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Morocco at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Oussama Lamlloui’s decisive goal was enough to seal the victory for the Atlas Lions, who now advance to the semi-finals.
The result means both East African representatives, Tanzania and Kenya, have now been knocked out of the tournament.
While Tanzanian fans were left stunned into silence, the goal ignited celebrations among Moroccan supporters.
Despite a determined effort from the home side that saw them match Morocco’s intensity for much of the match, Lamlloui’s strike proved to be the difference.
The win not only brings relief for Morocco but also builds on their formidable CHAN history.
The Atlas Lions are the tournament’s most successful team, having won the two previous editions in 2018 and 2020. They are also the first host nation to win the title and the first to win back-to-back championships.
Led by coach Tarik Sektioui, the FIFA 12th-ranked side is now poised to chase a third consecutive title.
This year’s tournament, which began on August 2 and will run until August 30, features top players from domestic leagues competing for continental glory.
