The political split within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) widened into a chasm on Saturday, February 21, 2026, as Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo called for the immediate impeachment of Siaya Governor James Orengo.
Speaking during the Linda Ground rally at Ahindi Gardens in Siaya town, held just 400 meters from the Governor’s office, Odhiambo urged Siaya MCAs to move with speed.
“I have information for all the MCAs from the Siaya County Assembly. Organize yourselves and send Orengo out of office next week,” the lawmaker declared to a cheering crowd.
The rally, which served as a homecoming for Senator Oburu Oginga, was a strategic show of force for the Linda Ground faction.
This group, now led by Dr Oburu following the passing of Raila Odinga, is pushing for a “broad-based” cooperation with the UDA government to secure development for the region.
The Siaya event was a direct rebuttal to the Linda Mwananchi faction, a rival ODM wing led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Governor Orengo.
While Sifuna’s group held counter-rallies in Vihiga and Kakamega advocating for a pure opposition stance, the leaders in Siaya trashed their colleagues as saboteurs of the region’s economic interests.
Beyond the impeachment threats, the rally’s speakers called for speedy negotiations between ODM and President Ruto’s UDA, signaling a desire to formalize a political marriage ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With Dr Oburu asserting his authority as the new party leader, the call to oust Orengo ushers in a ruthless new chapter in Siaya politics: you are either with the “Ground” or you are out.
