Two students injured as Al-Shabaab target education in latest Garissa blast

GARISSA: Two students from Alinjugur Secondary School were hurt on Sunday morning when their bus hit a roadside bomb near the Hagadera Refugee Camp in Garissa.

The blast happened around 10am while the bus was carrying eight teachers and a group of students.

Witnesses said the explosion went off just as the bus passed over it.

The force of the blast shattered the windows and left everyone on board in deep shock. Two students who were sitting near the windows were slightly injured and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.

Fortunately, their injuries were minor, and they were treated and sent home later that day.

When the police arrived at the scene, they saw three armed men trying to run away.

The officers fought with the gunmen, but the suspects managed to escape into the thick bushes nearby.

The police have now moved the damaged bus to a station to study it as they search for the attackers.

This attack reveals that members of the al-Shabaab group are still hiding in the area, even though the government has sent many more soldiers and police to protect the border.

These small groups often cross over from Somalia, carry out an attack, and then run back across the border to hide.

The government said it is using new equipment and more officers to stop these crimes.

However, these frequent attacks make it very hard for the region to grow. When schools and roads are not safe, it affects the lives of everyone living in Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera.

Many people believe the attackers are successful because they sometimes get help from people living within the local communities.
