Kakamega High School students sent home after alleged arson that destroyed a dormitory

A raging fire has destroyed a dormitory section at Kakamega High School following reports of student unrest, bringing learning and regional school sports activities to a sudden standstill.

Speaking to Kondele News, the school’s Chief Principal, Elphas Luvaso, stated they suspect arson by students following a wave of unrest at the institution.

He confirmed that no injuries were reported, though the Grade 10 dormitory, which accommodates more than 100 students, went up in flames.

Fire engines from the County Government of Kakamega were alerted, arriving at the scene after the fire had already engulfed the building, reducing students’ personal belongings to ashes.

In a text message seen by Kondele News, Mr Luvaso directed parents and guardians to pick up their children this morning, June 6, 2026, as investigations into the incident continue.

Mukumu boys arson plot thwilted; football star implicated

Meanwhile, at neighboring Mukumu Boys High School, normal learning was interrupted after authorities thwarted a similar arson plot.

According to an anonymous source, one student was arrested while attempting to sneak out of the school compound to purchase super petrol, which was allegedly intended to set a dormitory ablaze.

Upon being interrogated, the student named several accomplices, including key members of the school’s first-eleven football team.

The suspects have since been suspended, and learning has resumed. School authorities issued a stern warning to the student body, stating that anyone engaging in acts of lawlessness will “carry their own cross.”

Demoralized Tsunamis

The sudden suspensions have dealt a heavy blow to Mukumu Boys’ football team, popularly known as “Tsunami,” right in the middle of the ongoing Kakamega East Sub-County KSSSA Championships.

The squad has been left visibly demoralized, a factor heavily blamed for their recent poor run on the pitch.

Yesterday, Kondele News sports desk tracked a disappointing campaign where Tsunami settled for a 1-1 draw against Magale before being hammered 2-0 by the lesser-known Lwanda Secondary School.

With only a single point, Tsunami has just one match left in the group stages.

The local giants face a shock elimination today if Magale and Lwanda play out a draw in their upcoming fixture.

Kipsigis Girls

In a separate development, Kipsigis Girls High School has announced that all students will be released today, Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at 8:00 AM.

According to management, the students are expected to report back on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 8:00 AM, with zero fee balances.
