Residents of the Kondele and Manyatta informal settlements in Kisumu County benefited from a free medical camp organized by the Bob CEO Foundation in partnership with Gesoko Medical Health Partners.
The outreach initiative was rolled out as part of the foundation’s long-term Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, aiming to extend a helping hand to vulnerable, low-income, and underprivileged community members in need of healthcare services.
Rainfall-related illnesses and malaria
According to Kavin Makavi, Director of the Bob CEO Foundation, the organization chose to host the camp in Kondele and Manyatta because residents frequently face steep financial barriers when attempting to access basic medical care.
The initiative comes at a critical time as Kisumu County experiences long rains, which have triggered a surge in seasonal and water-borne ailments, particularly affecting middle-aged and elderly individuals.
Malaria which is currently identified as one of the most prominent communicable diseases in the region was a primary focus of the intervention.
The exercise was conducted in close collaboration with Kisumu businessman Bob Onyango CEO, local health personnel, and the management team from Gesoko Medical Health Partners, who provided clinical support and expertise.
SHA registration
Throughout the drive, health workers provided free diagnostic screenings, public health education, medical awareness, and drug distributions.
Services offered during the camp included, testing for chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes, free testing, counseling, and awareness campaigns for HIV and Malaria, treatment for minor acute illnesses in both children and adults, free Social Health Authority (SHA) registration for 200 individuals, ensuring that low-income families gain sustained access to healthcare coverage regardless of their financial status.
Severe cases requiring specialized care were referred to advanced health facilities, with the Bob CEO Foundation committing to follow up and provide financial support for their ongoing treatment.
Sustainability
Speaking during the exercise, local leaders and organizers noted that this is not the first time the foundation has organized such large-scale humanitarian medical outreach in Kisumu’s informal settlements.
The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to continuing these medical camps regularly to ensure no family in the community is left behind due to poverty.
