Nyamira University College begins admissions as construction accelerates on new campus

Nyamira University College has got a new life with admissions beginning as construction of new facilities continues at the institution.

Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof Nathan Ogechi announced that the institution is preparing to roll out its initial academic programmes in Business, Information and Communication Technology, Agriculture, and Natural Resources, with plans to introduce additional courses as the college expands.

The institution’s development journey spans more than 12 years, but the initiative gained significant momentum after President William Ruto met with a delegation from the Gusii community and directed the government to finance and construct the facility.

Groundbreaking officially took place in October 2025, kicking off a major building project that includes over 16 structures, with one of the primary academic blocks rising to five floors.

Construction on both the new library building and the main entrance gate is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

Prof Ogechi noted that the final building structure is slated for completion by the end of this year, while the entire campus development is expected to be fully finished by January or February of next year.

Expressing gratitude for the government’s financial support in driving this progress, the Vice Chancellor highlighted that once the institution is officially gazetted, it is expected to transition into a fully chartered, independent university within three years under the name Nyamira University.
