“Our independence came under your leadership”: treasury CS John Mbadi praises Ruto in Suba South

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has declared that Suba South only gained true economic recognition and development independence after President William Ruto assumed office.

Speaking in Homa Bay County during the fourth day of the President’s development tour of the Nyanza region, Mbadi, who previously served as the Suba South Member of Parliament for three consecutive terms, recounted years of official marginalisation under past administrations.

“I want to say that in as much as the country got independence in 1963, our own in this region came after you took over the leadership of this country,” Mbadi told the crowd.

Reflecting on his 15-year tenure as the area’s lawmaker, the Treasury Chief noted that despite his best efforts to improve basic infrastructure, major state-funded projects remained out of reach due to political discrimination.

“I must admit that I did so much in supplying water to the people and building schools, I sank boreholes and built classrooms,” Mbadi recalled.

“However, when it came to accessing national funds for roads, I hit a dead end. No previous administration would allow me to get even a single kilometre of tarmac in this constituency. I thank you very much because we are now seeing the difference.”

Mbadi assured the Head of State that the region would back his re-election bid, framing the broad-based government arrangement as the most viable path toward sustained economic growth for the region.

“I want to assure you that Luo Nyanza is solidly behind you, and we shall not trade this for anything,” he added.

Currently there is an ongoing construction of 74km Mbita-Sindo-Magunga road.
