Residents and potential investors in Migori County have been urged to capitalize on the region’s newly stabilized power supply by establishing industrial ventures to drive local socio-economic development.

The infrastructure development worth Sh1.4 billion project marks a significant boost to the region’s power grid.

Speaking on the operational status of the facility, Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) Engineer Reagan Oloka reported that the Masaba Substation, situated in Kuria West Sub-County, has achieved top-tier reliability since its energization.

“Since the substation was energized, we’ve been able to secure stable power. For the financial year 2025/2026, our reliability stood at 99.6 percent between June 2025 and July 2026,” Eng Oloka stated.

“Between July 2026 and September 2026, we are operating at 100 percent reliability. We can confidently say that power quality in the area has increased significantly.”

Eng Oloka noted that while peak demand in the region currently sits at roughly 12 Megawatts (MW), the installation holds substantial unused capacity.

“We still have an additional 13 MW lying idle. This is power ready to be consumed. We urge upcoming industries and businesses to set up in the region because available, steady power is guaranteed.”

Echoing these remarks, Masaba Substation Project Manager Engineer Moses Kere highlighted the rapid growth in local energy uptake since the facility went live.

“At the point of energization in June 2025, demand in this area was at 8 MW. Currently, peak demand averages around 10 MW, meaning power uptake has risen by more than 25 percent,” Eng Kere explained.

“The facility has given the region a dependable supply by significantly reducing the frequency of power disruptions.”

The modern infrastructure has effectively transformed the region’s energy landscape, which previously depended on an overstretched distribution network prone to frequent voltage drops and outages.

The upgraded supply now directly powers local residential areas, commercial centers, and major regional economic drivers.
