The long arm of the law has finally caught up with Walter Kipkoech, the 23-year-old murder suspect in Molo after going on the run following the gruesome killing of an 18-year-old student.
Kipkoech was tracked down and arrested in an intelligence-led operation in Lagwenda village, Kuresoi North.
Detectives from Molo, working in togethwe with the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) from the Rift Valley Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters, successfully smoked the suspect out of his hideout.
The harrowing ordeal began in the Kiambaa area of Moto Location, where the lifeless body of Joy Wangui, a bright Form Four student at Molo Secondary School, was discovered under deeply unsettling circumstances.
According to preliminary reports, Wangui’s brother had briefly stepped out to a nearby shop.
Upon his return, he walked into an unimaginable nightmare: his sister lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, her head brutally severed from her body.
First responders at the scene recovered a chilling array of blood-stained weapons, including an axe, a panga, and two kitchen knives, left near the body.
In an even more disturbing turn, the victim’s head was found separately in the corridor, accompanied by a grim message scrawled on the wall in blood: “I love you Joy but never cheat, am sorry.”
As a manhunt was immediately launched, investigators established that Kipkoech was the deceased’s boyfriend, pointing toward a tragic relationship dispute as the primary motive behind the heinous crime.
When detectives finally cornered and apprehended the fugitive, the evidence of the crime was chillingly apparent.
Kipkoech was found wearing a blood-stained boxer, a white T-shirt bearing the victim’s name at the hem, and black jeans marked with visible dry blood stains.
The suspect was safely escorted to Molo Police Station, where he is currently undergoing processing ahead of his official arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, detectives are continuing with comprehensive forensic investigations to piece together the full sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.
