Siaya Couple die after quarrelling over Sh30 meant for offering

A family in Siaya is devastated after a tragic incident stemming from a dispute over a mere Sh30 intended for church offering.

According to a police report filed at Siaya Police Station, Bernard Odwesso, aged 60, and his wife Pamela Anyango Awuor, aged 55, became embroiled in an argument over the money, which ultimately led to fatal consequences.

The report details that during the altercation at their home, Bernard Odwesso, suspected of taking the offering money, became enraged.

In a fit of fury, he armed himself with a knife and viciously attacked his wife, Pamela, fatally stabbing her multiple times.

Their daughter, Vida Odwesso, aged 22, managed to escape the violence. However, Bernard’s rage didn’t stop there; he also attacked his son, who intervened to try and defuse the situation.

The son sustained neck injuries and was rushed to Ratuoro Health Center, where he remains in stable condition.

The tragic events drew the attention of neighbors and members of the public, who responded with shock and anger upon learning of Pamela’s death.

They apprehended Bernard Odwesso and subjected him to mob justice, resulting in severe head injuries.

Despite efforts to save him, Bernard succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at Siaya County Referral Hospital.

The bodies of Bernard and Pamela have been taken to Siaya County Referral Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of their deaths.
