Police arrest five people in possession of 3000liters of ethanol

TESO SOUTH: Sleuths from Teso South sub-county carried out a stealth operation in Ochude, Busia, intercepting over three tonnes of suspected ethanol.

The contraband was packed in 111 jerrycans, each with a 30-litre capacity.

During the early morning raid at the home of Mildred Odongo, detectives found 58 jerrycans hidden in a room.

Another 53 were loaded on an Isuzu D-Max, registration KCY 332F, ready for distribution.

The operation, conducted jointly with KRA officials and officers from Adungosi Police Station, led to the arrest of five suspects: Isaiah Keta 27, Patrick Limo 25, Chrispinus Ilukol 30, Kelvin Ochuka 32, and Isaac Omoit 19.

The multi-agency team secured the vehicle and 3,330 litres of ethanol as evidence. The suspects were taken into custody, while the homeowner and other accomplices who fled are still being pursued.

Holidaymakers Cautioned Against Illicit Liquor

Authorities are warning revellers this festive season to stay vigilant. Greedy traders are pushing illicit liquor, which poses serious health risks.

Despite ongoing crackdowns on unregulated alcohol, some prohibited and harmful products continue to circulate.

Law enforcement has intercepted numerous uncustomed and substandard liquor brands, but traders remain undeterred.

Consumers are urged to prioritize safety and avoid purchasing alcohol from dubious sources. The crackdown aims to protect the public and ensure a safer festive season.
