NAIROBI: Juja MP George Koimburi sparked a heated debate in Parliament today after claiming that voter bribery and “flawed processes” were responsible for the election of new members.

While welcoming newly elected MPs Leo Wamuthende and Malava’s David Ndakwa, Koimburi stunned the House by warning them to “listen to the ground” or risk losing their seats in 2027.

“I call upon you, especially Leo Wamuthende, to listen to the ground and make appropriate decisions,” Koimburi stated. “A lot of things happened, including the voter bribery that saw some of them get elected. A lot of money was used to bribe voters in the mountain region.”

The remarks drew an immediate rejoinder from Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, who accused Koimburi of disrespecting the House and misleading the public.

“We cannot continue having the same member disrespect this House repeatedly. The same member was forgiven the other time when he misled the entire House and made a public spectacle of the National Assembly,” Kiarie argued.

Despite the interruption, Koimburi maintained his stance that state resources were used to influence the recent polls.
