Police Hunt for a man who killed father over ‘Ugali’

A 20-year-old man, Peter Olwenye, is in police custody following a deadly confrontation with his father in the Mugumoini area of Lang’ata on Saturday night.

The victim, 70-year-old Joseph Okello, was allegedly stabbed to death following a disagreement over the preparation of ugali.

According to witnesses, the elder man had questioned his son’s cooking method, specifically criticizing his decision to start cooking using water that had not yet reached a boil.

What began as a verbal exchange reportedly escalated after the father challenged the logic behind the cooking method, triggering a heated argument inside the house.

Witnesses said the confrontation quickly turned violent, with the suspect allegedly picking up a knife and stabbing his father several times.

Police said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the back and neck and died on the spot.

The suspect is said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack and is believed to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

Officers have launched a manhunt as investigations continue.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem.
