The Siaya County Health Department has issued a public notice regarding its intention to dispose of five unclaimed bodies currently lying in the Got Agulu Hospital Mortuary.
The county government has given the families of the deceased 21 days to collect the remains. If the bodies are not claimed within this period, authorities will head to court to seek legal permission for disposal.
The bodies include three adult males and two infant males, all brought to the facility by police officers on various dates.
According to the notice, the oldest case involves an unknown adult male brought in by police on February 23, 2016. The body has remained unclaimed at the facility for over a decade. Another body, belonging to an infant male, was admitted on September 14, 2023. The most recent admission was an adult male brought to the facility on February 27, 2026.
“To prevent a public health nuisance, we hereby require families to claim the remains for burial within 21 days. Failure to do so will compel Got Agulu Sub-County Hospital, through the Public Health Officer, to seek court authority to dispose of the bodies at the Siaya Public Cemetery,” stated the notice, signed by Elizabeth Olang’o, the Sub-County Public Health Officer.
