A major voter registration drive targeting unregistered citizens has kicked off in Ugunja Constituency.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Interior, led by Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, and local leader ZB Owino, aimed at boosting democratic participation in the region.
Speaking during the official launch of the initiative at Simenya, Owino emphasized that the campaign primarily focuses on young people who have hit the voting age but remain off the electoral matrix.
According to Owino, a significant number of residents who have turned 18 years old have yet to register as voters. He urged the youth to step up and take advantage of this localized drive to secure their right to vote.
Beyond just listing names, the partners emphasized that the drive is deeply rooted in civic education and community empowerment.
Owino highlighted that civic responsibility is the foundation of local growth.
“Voting gives wananchi an authentic opportunity to choose accountability, pick their leaders, and directly influence the development agendas of their neighborhoods.”
Organizers also noted that the program will double as a platform to educate residents on the importance of maintaining peace and cohesion before, during, and after electoral cycles.
The voter registration drive is structured to roll out across different wards within Ugunja Constituency. To ensure maximum impact and a high turnout, the organizers have called on: local administrators and leaders to champion the cause in their villages. Youth champions and community groups to spearhead grassroots mobilization.
