Oppose Dr Oburu and broad-based government at your own risk, CS Wandayi warns Nyanza leaders

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi is rallying elected leaders from the Nyanza region, particularly those on the ODM ticket, to unite behind party leader Oburu Oginga as the country gears up for the 2027 elections.

The energy boss warned of dire consequences for those leaders who will do the contrary.

Speaking as the guest of honor at a KUPPET Siaya branch fundraiser, the Energy CS issued a strong warning to leaders who disrespect Dr Oginga or oppose the current “broad-based” government arrangement, suggesting that such dissent will cost them future leadership opportunities.

“We are all supporting our party leader, Dr. Oburu, and any leader opposing the broad-based government will not get a chance to lead in this region,” Wandayi stated. He emphasized a unified front, adding, “As a region, we are united behind Dr. Oburu and President William Ruto. We are speaking as a united people with a common agenda. Those who are against the broad-based arrangement will go home.”

Wandayi’s call comes at a time when the political climate in the Luo region is shifting. A faction of leaders, led by Siaya Governor James Orengo, has been vocal in their revolt against the current broad-based arrangement.

Regarding Siaya County politics specifically, Wandayi noted that he would share his formal stance in due course, emphasizing that the electorate deserves better representation.

“I will speak about Siaya County politics in due course. As a veteran politician and a leader with a huge following in Siaya, I will give direction. Siaya deserves better,” he concluded.
