The official State House website has been compromised in a high-profile cyberattack, with its homepage defaced and replaced by derogatory messages targeting President William Ruto.
The attackers, who managed to breach the public-facing portal president.go.ke, are demanding a ransom of five Bitcoins, equivalent to approximately Sh41.3 million based on current market rates.
Before the portal was abruptly pulled offline by technical teams, visitors were met with an unauthorized banner containing demeaning ultimatums directed at the Head of State, alongside threats to leak unspecified information if the financial demands were not met before a strict 6:00 PM deadline.
Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has assured the public that the country’s specialized cybersecurity agencies are actively responding to the breach and are “on top of the situation.”
State House also issued a brief acknowledgment confirming the incident, stating that its in-house Information and Communication Technology (ICT) team is working to fully restore the platform.
Currently, the presidential website remains completely inaccessible, displaying only a blank white page Error 404.
