Setting records; Governor Wamatangi’s administration set new record of Sh6.5billion own source revenue

Kiambu County has achieved its highest own-source revenue collection since devolution began in 2013, bringing in Sh6.5 billion during the 2025/2026 financial year.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi announced this milestone on Wednesday July 22, noting that the record was reached without raising any existing taxes, fees, or levies, but rather through improved collection measures introduced since he took office in 2022.

County Executive Committee Member for Finance Nancy Kirumba further pointed to the automation of county revenue systems as a key driver of efficiency and increased collections.

The growth builds on a steady upward trend, rising from approximately Sh2.9 billion when Wamatangi took office in 2022 to Sh5.45 billion in the 2024/2025 financial year.

Looking ahead, the county aims to surpass these figures, with the Governor noting that a target of Sh13.5 billion is within sight for a county that also receives about Sh11.5 billion in national government disbursements.

This boosted revenue capacity has helped fund several major county projects, including: construction of 512 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres, 32 Level Three and Level Four hospitals, and 26 markets featuring thousands of modern stalls.

The Wamatangi led administration has also manged to install 12,000 solar-powered streetlights and agricultural input support for over 750,000 farmers.
