BY AGWANDA SAYE: Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, alongside Kisumu First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o under the Africa Cancer Foundation, has officially flagged off a Mobile Cancer Screening Unit.

The mobile clinic will bring free cancer screening, clinical services, and public awareness directly to communities across Kisumu, Siaya, and the surrounding region.

The launch, held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), was attended by representatives of the National Government, Kisumu County CECM for Health Greg Ganda, Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga, JOOTRH Acting CEO Joshua Okise, and various healthcare partners.

“We also toured the hospital’s Cancer Centre, currently under construction, which will be a transformative facility for cancer care in our region once completed,” Governor Nyong’o said.

He added that the mobile unit has already begun its community outreach program, making its first stop at Manywanda in Seme Sub-County.

“By taking screening services closer to the people, particularly in underserved areas, we are advancing early detection, timely treatment, and better health outcomes, as early detection saves lives,” he emphasized.

Governor Nyong’o commended the Africa Cancer Foundation, healthcare professionals, and all participating partners whose collaboration made the initiative possible.

He reaffirmed that Kisumu County remains committed to strengthening partnerships that expand access to quality healthcare, ensuring no resident is left behind.

He encouraged all residents to take full advantage of the free screening services whenever the mobile clinic visits their local community.
