President William Ruto issued 4,360 title deeds to residents of Mombasa County on Friday as his eight-day development tour of the Coast region enters its final day.
The President presided over the issuance at Mama Ngina Drive Grounds, with the exercise forming part of a wider government programme targeting nearly 200,000 title deeds across the six coastal counties.
The initiative is aimed at addressing long-standing land ownership and administrative challenges in the region.
Ruto began the Coast tour on September 26, visiting Taita-Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River and Lamu counties.
One of the major highlights of the tour was the groundbreaking of the proposed Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu, which the government has linked to efforts to strengthen regional energy security and petroleum processing capacity.
During his engagements in Mombasa on Thursday, Ruto also flagged off medical equipment valued at KSh500 million destined for 50 hospitals across the county under a partnership between the national and county governments.
The President later held a media engagement at State House, Mombasa, where he discussed the proposed refinery and the circumstances that led to the project being pursued.
Ruto said disruptions to global fuel supplies associated with tensions in the Middle East prompted discussions on measures to strengthen Kenya’s energy security.
He said consultations with businessman Aliko Dangote and regional leaders eventually contributed to the selection of Lamu as the proposed site.
The Coast tour has focused on land reforms, infrastructure, healthcare, energy and other development projects as the government seeks to address longstanding challenges in the region.
