A Kisii woman who spent six years in prison following the tragic death of her stepmother has broken her silence, recounting the fateful evening on May 25, 2020, that shattered her life in a matter of minutes.

Freshly released after serving her full sentence, Keremensia Nyamoita shared her account of the events that led to her conviction, detailing a betrayal that escalated into a fatal accident inside her home.

According to Keremensia, the day began like any other.

After completing a routine day of trading at the local market, she returned home on the evening of May 25, 2020.

Upon reaching her house, she found the front door closed but heard murmurs inside.

Pushing the door open, she set down her goods just as her husband emerged from the bedroom into the sitting room, a sight that immediately raised suspicion, as he rarely returned home at that hour.

Hearing a commotion coming from the bedroom, Keremensia moved to check.

Though her husband attempted to block her path, the woman inside stepped out into the living room on her own.

Keremensia stood frozen as she recognized the intruder: her own stepmother.

When asked what she was doing there, her stepmother simply replied, “Nothing.”

Fatal confrontation

Overcome with rage upon confronting the affair, Keremensia rushed toward her stepmother.

Her husband attempted to step between the two women to break up the confrontation, triggering a chaotic physical scuffle.

During the struggle, Keremensia pushed her stepmother away.

The older woman staggered backward, striking her forehead violently against the edge of a wooden table.

The impact caused a severe traumatic head injury, which ultimately proved fatal.

Following the incident, Keremensia was arrested, charged, and subsequently convicted of manslaughter, receiving a six-year prison sentence.

Having served her time, she says she is now coming forward to set the record straight on the circumstances surrounding that tragic night.
