Procurement officer in a hot soup after Sh675k irregular payment

Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit have arrested Kenyatta National Hospital procurement officer Bernard Mutegi in Chuka for allegedly orchestrating a fake delivery scheme that siphoned Sh675,000 from the Mwai Kibaki Hospital Annex in Nyeri County.

Using counterfeit delivery notes and payment vouchers, the suspect falsely documented that aprons had been delivered to the medical facility, securing an illegal payout of SH675,000 for goods that were never supplied.

Following the probe, the case file was reviewed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which directed that Mutegi be charged with: conspiracy to defraud, making a document without authority and stealing

Mutegi remains in police custody undergoing processing ahead of his court arraignment. Meanwhile, detectives are actively pursuing other suspects believed to be co-conspirators in the syndicate who are still at large.
