Paul Gatundu Muthumbi, the founder of the legendary Mbukinya Bus Services, was laid to rest today Wednesday at his home in Limuru, Kiambu County.
Family members, friends, business associates, and mourners gathered for the funeral service to pay their final respects to the veteran transport pioneer whose buses became a fixture on Kenyan roads for decades.
Mbukinya Bus Services earned a reputation as one of the country’s most iconic long-distance transport operators, connecting Nairobi with major Western Kenya hubs including Kisumu, Kakamega, Mumias, and Siaya.
News of Muthumbi’s passing prompted a wave of tributes on social media, with many Kenyans sharing nostalgic memories of traveling aboard Mbukinya buses during their formative years, describing the company as an integral part of their journeys to school, work, and family reunions.
Mbukinya loosely translated as mermaid is a household name in the transport industry just like Easy Coach, Climax, Msamaria Mwema, Nya Ugenya among others.
