Family in Butula mourning death of a teenager after deadly assault meted by the father

A family in Bugengi Village, Butula Constituency, Busia County, is mourning the death of a 14-year-old boy who allegedly died after being severely beaten by his father.

The victim, Elvis Odhiambo, a Grade Six pupil, sustained serious head injuries during the incident and was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

According to his mother, Gladys Adhiambo, she discovered her son crying on the verandah in intense pain, where he told her that his father had brutally assaulted him.

A family relative, Alphonce Onyango, stated that the violence allegedly stemmed from a minor domestic dispute after the boy refused his father’s instructions to gather grass thatch.

Neighbours who rushed to the homestead after hearing screams found the teenager in critical condition and attempted to transport him for emergency care, but their efforts were in vain.

Following the attack, the boy’s father fled the village and remains on the run, alongside another individual who was reportedly present during the incident.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter, and the teenager’s body has been moved to the Sega Mortuary in neighboring Siaya County, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to officially determine the cause of death.
