Homicide detectives take over probe into fatal shooting of Nairobi doctor in Upper Hill

Homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, who was killed in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area on Wednesday morning, July 29, 2026.

According to preliminary findings released by the police, Dr Mutiso had requested an Uber ride when she sustained fatal gunshot wounds under circumstances that remain under active investigation.

Immediately after the incident was reported, police officers alongside Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) experts secured and processed the scene.

Forensic exhibits were recovered and documented for expert analysis, while initial witnesses were interviewed.

Detectives also visited the hospital where Dr Mutiso was rushed before succumbing to her injuries.

In an official statement, the DCI extended condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, reassuring the public of a thorough, impartial, and swift probe.

“A team of homicide detectives from the DCI Headquarters, supported by forensic experts, has since taken over the investigation,” the DCI stated in their statement adding that, “Detectives are pursuing all critical investigative leads, including following up on persons of investigative interest, to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all those responsible are identified and brought to justice.”

No suspects have been publicly named yet as sleuths continue analyzing forensic evidence and tracking leads to establish the motive behind the attack.
