Two dead, 26 injured as funeral bus rolls on Muhoroni-Londiani road

KERICHO: Two people lost their lives and 26 others sustained varying injuries early Thursday morning after a hearse bus carrying mourners overturned along the Muhoroni–Londiani road in Kericho County.

According to a police report recorded, the self-involved accident occurred at around 4:50am in the Tunnel area.

The vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz bus registration number KDH 181Y belonging to KUPA Kenya Hearse Services, was driven by 33-year-old Emmanuel Osembo.

The bus was en route to Muhoroni, carrying family members and friends escorting the body of the late Jayden Kamau for burial.

The report further indicate that upon reaching the Tunnel area, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

It then veered off to the left side of the road before rolling once.

Two passengers, Matthew Obiero 36 and Margaret Oreyo 21, died on the spot.

Twenty-six other passengers suffered injuries ranging from facial cuts and deep head lacerations to chest and body pains.

Two victims, identified as Adson Mbaya and Jane Khasiala, were reported unconscious as a result of the impact of crash.

The bodies of the deceased persons were transferred to the St. Vincent Morgue awaiting postmortem.

The damaged vehicle was towed to the police station pending mechanical inspection to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Police have launched investigations.
