CA assures uninterrupted connectivity for 2027 general election

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has assured that the country will maintain robust and reliable digital connectivity during the upcoming August 10, 2027, general election.

Addressing stakeholders at the national election security consultative forum convened by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), CA Director General David Mugonyi emphasized that the authority’s primary focus is guaranteeing seamless communication infrastructure right down to the polling stations.

While highlighting that Kenya already boasts extensive 3G, 4G, and 5G network coverage across the majority of the country, Mugonyi acknowledged that targeted interventions remain necessary for a few traditionally marginalized regions to bridge connectivity gaps ahead of polling day.

This robust network availability forms the backbone of the country’s electoral integrity, particularly regarding the electronic transmission of results.

During voting, the IEBC relies heavily on the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits.

Once ballots are counted and verified at the local level, presiding officers use these kits to capture high-resolution, secure images of completed Form 34A documents.

This critical data is then transmitted simultaneously to constituency, county, and national tallying centers, as well as the public verification portal.

Beyond supporting the electoral commission’s core mandate, Mugonyi affirmed that the CA is fully committed to facilitating media organizations in their vital role of broadcasting election updates and results safely and efficiently.
