BY OCHIENG CLINTON: SIAYA nurses have petitioned the County Assembly to intervene in their ongoing strike, citing unresolved grievances over four months of unpaid salaries and dissatisfaction with the Star Medical policy.

Despite calls from the national government to call off the industrial action, branch secretary general Kennedy Hamisi stated that the strike will continue until all their demands are met. The nurses are particularly concerned about the inadequacies of the Star Medical cover, especially regarding access to private healthcare facilities.

While the dispute continues to disrupt healthcare services across the county, the Siaya County Assembly has acknowledged receipt of the petition. Clerk Erick Odhiambo Ogenga assured union officials that the matter will be prioritized when the House resumes its sittings the following week, as union chair Dr. Denis Omolo urged swift action on the urgent medical-cover complaints.
