Time for strategy: MDG aspirants in Siaya move to consolidate support

By DAMARIS AWUOR: The Movement for Democratic Growth (MDG) has brought together aspiring candidates from different constituencies in Siaya County to strategize ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The meeting, held on September 10, 2026, brought together aspirants seeking various elective positions under the Movement for Democratic Growth (MDG) party.

The aspirants came from different parts of Siaya County, including Bondo, Gem, Ugenya, Ugunja, Rarieda and Alego Usonga constituencies.

Speaking during the meeting, Oscar Ambiya (MDG Chairman Siaya County) said the gathering provided an opportunity for MDG aspirants to come together and discuss their plans ahead of the 2027 elections.

Oscar, who is eyeing Siaya Township ward seat in 2027 elections, also noted that the party was working to bring together aspirants across the county as it prepares for the upcoming elections.

Mary Atieno, who is eying the Women Representative’s seat said MDG is open to everyone regardless of their political background.

She further urged residents to join the party, describing it as a promising political movement that could provide opportunities to people with different political ambitions.

She encouraged people who have political dreams to consider MDG as a platform through which they could pursue their aspirations.

Meanwhile, the MDG Chairman of Alego Usonga Atisi Okello, said aspirants had agreed to work together as the election approaches.

Unity of action

He pointed  that cooperation among the aspirants would be important in strengthening the party from the grassroots level to the polling station.

He called on the candidates to remain united and support one another as they prepare for the 2027 General elections.

Speaking at the same meeting, Omondi Asa, an aspiring MCA for West Alego on an MDG party ticket, said the youth had agreed to unite and mobilize fellow young people to support the party.

He said the youth would work together to campaign for MDG party leader David Ochieng, who is running for the Siaya gubernatorial position.

Asa described Ochieng as an experienced leader, citing his previous service as the Member of Parliament for Ugenya.

He further said Ochieng had a clear agenda and manifesto aimed at addressing the needs of residents, particularly young people.

The aspirant also highlighted proposed support for young people, including a promise of financial assistance amounting to Ksh10000 from Honorable David Ochieng.

The meeting ended with calls for unity among MDG aspirants and supporters as the party seeks to strengthen its presence across Siaya County ahead of the 2027 General Election
