Detectives in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a man suspected of sexually assaulting a minor who later died.

The suspect is the child’s stepfather.

Erick Wamalwa Namukana, alias Funje, had gone into hiding after the incident, which set off a manhunt by detectives.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the boy was allegedly sexually assaulted between March 2 and 3, 2026.

He was rushed to Bikeke Health Centre for treatment, then referred to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, where he was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.

Police say the suspect fled to an unknown destination after the incident. Detectives intensified their investigations and followed up leads to trace him and establish the circumstances of the child’s death.

The sustained effort paid off when officers arrested the suspect in the Shimo la Tewa area of Milimani, Kiminini Sub-County.

He was taken to the DCI Kiminini offices, where investigators are processing him as they continue their inquiries.
