Shock as a senior NIS officer takes own life at his home in Nairobi

KILIMANI-NAIROBI: Authorities in Nairobi are currently investigating the tragic and unexpected passing of a prominent National Intelligence Officer, discovered deceased at his residence in the Kimlimani area shortly after returning home the previous day.

Tom Mboya Adala 54, had returned to his residence where he resided with his nephew on Monday, June 3rd, according to statements from his family. Concern arose when his nephew, Francis Oduor, was unable to locate him within their spacious home on Tuesday, June 4th, even after searching upstairs where Mboya typically slept.

After inquiries with the household staff, who reported not having seen Mboya, Oduor made a startling discovery. His uncle’s lifeless body was found within the servant quarters. Oduor promptly alerted other family members, who then contacted law enforcement.

Upon arrival, the authorities determined that Mboya had taken his own life, having discharged a firearm. Sources close to the investigation revealed that Mboya had been grappling with depression.

“He shot himself using a pistol on the right side of the head, which exited on his left side…At the scene, Glock 19 pistol s/no kg 589, was recovered with 1 spent cartridge and a magazine loaded with 3 rounds. In his bedroom, another spare magazine was recovered loaded with 13 rounds,” stated a Police incident report.

The incident has left the community reeling, prompting reflection on mental health awareness and support within the intelligence community and beyond.
